Last week everyone was freaking out about Drake‘s “Hotline Bling” video – which was beautiful and really just the latest in a strong sequence of videos the artist has been releasing. But I particularly enjoyed this unexpected offering from him but when you’re teaming with experimental directing-duo Fleur and Manu, you’re bound to get something a little off the wall. The video for Drake’s track “Energy” sees the artist morphed into various celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Floyd Mayweather, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, a Ken doll and Barack Obama. He even recreates some major talking points such as Kanye’s infamous “Bound 2” video, OJ Simpson’s car chase, and LeBron James’ return to Cleveland. It’s undoubtedly a comment on sensationalism in the media, and it’s great to see Drake subvert that platform in his video.
