So there hasn’t been a debut that has been this anticipated in a long time. She’s released a few EPs which have been on heavy rotation online and she is definitely a key figure in this new wave of alternative RnB happening right now (with other pioneers such as Frank Ocean and The Weekend). Her name is FKA twigs and she is a young female singer from the UK. She has gained a lot of attention lately with her sexually provocative lyrics and ethereal electro sound. Like many of her RnB classmates, she’s letting the music do all the talking and not relying on a very commercial definition of “sex” (thanks, Kurt).
Saying that, I am not totally bowled over by her latest video but it is very popular right now, the first track off her much-awaited debut full length album and is directed by Nabil Elderkin. The video for “Two Weeks” features the singer as a golden goddess-like in a temple feeding miniature versions of herself. The lyrics are pretty explicit and twisted, hence why I expected more. But she’s still going to be a great artist to watch this year.
