Arcade Fire “We Exist”

Wow. I am so excited this video is here. After the teaser was released a few weeks ago, I had no idea what to expect. It wasn’t this, but as the world concentrates more and more on LGBT issues, it could not come at a better time.

An astounding performance by actor Andrew Garfield playing a young transgender man in a small farming community who is not welcome in a local bar. The music and direction works so seemlessly with the song, that as it tenses, the climax hits and our hero breaks out into expressive choreography. (Arcade Fire’s album was criticised by some as being “too dance heavy” and I think its great that they’re embracing that in their videos). The dance sequence was designed by Ryan Heffington who also did Sia’s Chandelier, and once again is intense and emotional. What happens after is pretty mystical and wonderful. Director David Wilson has handles this emotional subject matter so gracefully, you can’t help but cheer with the audience at the end. Awesome.
