As I had hoped for, the D&AD awards results for best music videos was pretty awesome. One music award show that hasn’t let me down. There are some really highly crafted pieces that have been selected, some have even appeared on this blog before, so yay me. I will take you through some of my favourites in the next few days.
The first up is this video by Aiofe McArdle, who is a director that lots of folks are pretty excited about. It’s for Jon Hopkins and their track “Open Eye Signal”. The excellent camera work follows a boy on his skateboard as he moves from gritty suburb to country with very little information about where he’s going but there are enough clues to build a story. It’s been nominated for best cinematography, and as with most of McArdle’s work, it captures a moody atmosphere with soft light and mysterious locations. It’s actually been a video that’s been in my draft folder for a while and I’m so glad that it’s been recognised.
