About two weeks ago Kanye West‘s video for his track “Black Skinhead” leaked online. It was an incomplete version of the final product and he expressed his disappointment that this had happened. I chose not to watch it and decided to wait for the final version. News that this was a collaboration with Nick Knight made that harder. Nick Knight has always been an incredible creative force in photography, pushing boundaries with digital manipulation and highly experimental techniques. Thus the video features a heavy digital element – shot in black and white, West moves across an aggressive graphic space, his body transforming and animating as a pack of black dogs bark behind him. It opens up with black hooded Ku-Klux Klan figures – relating to the title. The version on West’s site is an interactive piece – which can be manipulated and recorded every time you watch it. Pretty dark stuff.
